Joseph enlisted in the US military on 6 Aug 1918 during World War I. Private 1st Class Joseph Henry Hudson was in the 146th Infantry Regiment, 73rd Infantry Brigade, 37th Division.[2][3] The 146th was on the frontline in the Baccarat sector in France when Joseph enlisted. He may not have joined the regiment until it redeployed to Hooglede, Belgium, arriving at the frontline on 22 Oct 1918. The 146th advanced on the Scheldt River, making a crossing on 10-11 Nov 1918. As they began to again advance, they were halted by the Armistice of 11 November 1918[4] that ended the war. Joseph returned to the United States and was discharged on 3 Jun 1919.[2]
Joseph was a postman. In 1965, he lived on Sweetwater Pike in Loudon, Tennessee. He died in Bacon Hospital, Loudon, Loudon County, Tennessee in 1965 due to hypertensive cardiovascular disease.[1] He is buried in Lenoir City Cemetery, Lenior City, Loudon County, Tennessee.[5]
