Biography

Benjamin Hoyt was born 11 Dec 1761 in Hubbardston, Massachusetts.

He moved to Craftsbury, Vermont in 1795 after serving in the American Revolution. (See Mass Soldiers and Sailors in the American Revolution.)

In 1790 he appears on the "Heads of Families," Orleans County, Vermont 1790 Census for Hartford, Windsor County. In 1800 he is listed in "Heads of Families," in Craftsbury, Orleans, Vermont.

"Benjamin Hoyt's lists David, James, Benjamin, Wyman, John and Job all born between 1789 and 1798.

VT USC 1840 lists Benjamin Hoyt of Craftsbury, Orleans. Vermont.

He died on 29 Oct 1843 (aged 81–82) and is buried at Craftsbury Common Cemetery [1]

His wife Lydia lived to 82 yrs.

Wyman, HIs second child, born in 1789, had also a family of thirteen children, eight of whom are living. Job, his fourth child, was a leading member of the Methodist church, having held the office of steward over sixty years. All of his seven children are living.

The youngest, Charles C., served in Co. I, First Vt. Cav., and was a prisoner of war eight months. He occupies the old homestead.
