Biography

Peter Householder was born on 10 Aug 1835 in Washington County, Maryland, the son of Elias Householder and Sarah Startzman.

In 1850 he was 14 years old and living with his parents and siblings in Pine Creek, Ogle, Illinois. [1]

In 1860 he was listed in the census as 26 years old, and was still living in Pine Creek, Ogle, Illinois with his family. His father was a farmer and he was a farm laborer. [2]

He served in the Illinois Infantry during the United States Civil War (see more below).

He married Anna Sheets on 28 Nov 1869 in Ogle County, Illinois. [3]

In 1870, Peter and Anna were living in Mount Morris, Ogle, Illinois. Peter worked as a Painter, and there were no children in their household. [4]

In 1880 Peter was still a Painter in Mount Morris. He and Anna had four sons, Claud (9), Willis (6), Roy (4), and Carl (2). [5]

In 1900, Peter was still a Painter in Mount Morris. He and Anna had four sons and a daughter living at home, Claude (28), Roy (23), Earl (22), Melvin (19) and Blanch (13). [6]

In 1910, he and Anna were living in Mount Morris, with no children still at home. [7]

He died on 14 Mar 1914 in Mount Morris, Ogle, Illinois, and was buried at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris, Ogle, Illinois. [8]


HOUSEHOLDER PETER, Mount Morris; born Aug. 10, 1835, in Washington Co., Md; came to Mount Morris with his father in 1837; married Anna Sheets Nov., 1869, this being his second marriage; is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church; children --- Claud, born June 4, 1861; William, born July 8, 1863; Roy, born July 4, 1866; was a member of Co. H, 34th Ill. Infantry, enlisted in Sept. 1861, and was commissioned1st Lieutenant of that Company Dec. 27, 1862; Captain of the Company Sept. 12, 1863; participated in the battle of Shiloh, capture of Corinth, Miss., and Stone River, where he was wounded in the discharge of his duty by being shot through the side, and was confined in hospital No. 8, at Nashville, Tenn., four months, when he again took command of his Company, and was in the battle of Liberty Gap, Tenn., and Resaca, Ga., where he was shot through the thighs by canister shot, and was then declared unfit for active service, and transferred to the Commissary Depatment, and on Dec. 6, 1864, finally mustered out of service; in the year 1875, was elected a member of the Town Board of Mount Morris.

Peter Householder, born Aug. 10, 1835, was one of the ten children of Elias Householder and his wife, Sarah Startzman.
