Biography

Gordon Hollinger was born in Woolwich Township in 1888. He was the son of Louis Hollinger and Lydia Lein. He married Olivia Winkler in 1922.

ST JACOBS June 12 —Active in St. Jacobs community and church life, Gordon Hollinger, 59, died early today after an illness of 18 months.

In 1930 he purchased a store from the late Henry Gilles estate and developed it into a wholesale hardware business which he operated at his death. For many years previously he had-been produce commission agent.

SPORTS ENTHUSIAST Mr. Hollinger took a keen interest in the development of rural softball and hockey. Active in political affairs, he served many years on ’the Waterloo North Liberal executive. He was a member of the Elmira High School Board until forced by illness to resign and was a member of St Jacobs Library Board at his death.

Mr. Hollinger was a life-long member of St James's Lutheran Church serving on the church board in the Brotherhood and as Bible class teacher. For some years he was president of the Brotherhood of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Canada. He was a member of Rose Masonic Order 628 and the Waterloo Lions Club.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Hollinger, he was born near St Jacobs Dec. 13, 1888. At an early age, he moved with his parents to SL Jacobs. In 1922 he married Olivia Winkler who survives, with one daughter Gladys. There is one sister Mrs. W. S. (Salima) Sheppard of Waterloo and one brother Lincoln of St. Jacobs. A brother, Norman predeceased him in 1938.

FUNERAL MONDAY A private funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at his late residence thence to St. James' Lutheran Church for public service.

Burial will be in St James's Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. H. H. Brose will officiate. The body is resting at the Dreisinger Funeral Home, Elmira until Monday when it will be taken to the residence.[1]

ST. JACOBS June 14 — A private funeral service for tile late Gordon Hollinger prominent St Jacobs merchant will be held from his late residence Tuesday. Public service will follow in St James’s Lutheran Church.

Interment will be made in St James's Lutheran Cemetery. Rev. H. H. Brose will officiate.

Day of the funeral service was previously incorrectly reported as today. [2]
