CLAIMANTS AFFIDAVIT: written by Thomas Hogue
"I think it was about the 20th of May 1865 while on the march from Richmond to Washington after the surrender of R. E. Lee. I think it was near Fairfax Court House that I suffered a sun stroke. I have a faint recollection of running up against a fence on one side of the road and the next was in amongst the bushes on the other side. That was the last I knew till the next day. The road was full of straglers so I made my way to camp by slow progress."
GENERAL AFFIDAVIT: "Thomas Hogue age 59 - P.O Add Moville-Woodbury
County Iowa"
....."I received a sun stroke after the surrender of Lee while on the
way from Richmond to Washington near Fairfax.....about May 1st 1865"
DECLARATION FOR ORIGINAL INVALED PENSION: "Thomas Hogue age 62 of
Tidioute, Warren, Penn"
....."who entered service during the War of the Rebellion.....on or about the 16 day of August, 1862 as Private in company I of the 142nd regiment of Penna vol Infty commanded by Capt. Wm. Hasson and was Honorably Discharged at near Washington, on or about the 29th day of May 1865"

with Co May 29, 1865. Also borne as Thomas Hogue.
From Aug 16, 1862 to May 29, 1865 he held the rank of Prvt Corpl & Sergt.
and during that period the rolls show him present except as follows Oct 01,62 sick hospital B. Frederick Md. same to Dec 31, 62 -Feb 28, 63 cook in hospitl. Aug 31, 63 absent without leave from July 20, 63. Prisoner of War records show him captured near Gettysburg Pa July 1, 63. No further record.
The medical records show him treated as follows as Thomas Hogue, Priv, co I 142 Pa, Oct 23 62 to Mch 12,63, Febris intermittens, detailed Nov 17, 62; missing at the battle of Gettysburg Pa,July 1-2 or 3, 63; wounded Metacarpus flesh, at the battle of Wilderness, Va May 5, 6 & 7, 64: treated as Thomas Higue, to May 7,64 wound metacarpus: as Thomas Hogue, Corpl, 2c, May 11 to 13, 64, malingerer, ret'd to duty. nothing additional found."
DECLARATION FOR PENSION: "Thomas Hogue, declares that he is 74 years
of age and a resident of Spokane, county of Spokane, State of Washington.. ..Description: Height, 5 feet 9 inches; complexion, florid; color of eyes, blue; color of hair, brown; his occupation was laborer."
"..... several places of residence from close of war, Warren and Forest Cos., Pa., until October, 1880; Woodbury Co., Iowa, from 1880 to Sept., 1895; Warren and Forest COs., Pa., from Sept., 1895, to April, 1906; Since that date, Spokane, Wash."

(the Soldier) commensed house keeping at Grand Valley Warren Co., PA.
Lived there about six months, and at other places in the vicinity, for some time. Then moved to Moville State of Iowa. lived there but a short time. Then moved back to Penna. at or near a place called Fagundus, in Warren County. Lived there until 1906. Then moved to Chattoroy State Washington. lived there until 1914, then went to Norfolk State of Nebrasky. In 1915 we moved to Ellsworth State of Iowa. at which place my husband (Thomas Hogue the said Soldier) died. I then came to Grand Valley Penna to live with my sister,...."
