The son of Henry Hoagland and Mary (Van Tuyle) Hoagland Cornelius Hoagland was born in Romulus, New York[citation needed] in 1830. He migrated with his family migrated to the new state of Michigan, arriving between 1832 and 1835[1] and settling in the village of Britton, in Ridgeway Township, in southern Michigan.[2]
Cornelius married Sally Ann (Bramble) Miller, the daughter of John Bramble and Abigail Miller, marrying in Lenawee County, Michigan on July 4, 1854[3] and having two known children together. They made their home in Ridgeway Township,[4] where he worked as a blacksmith.
Cornelius Hoagland passed away at the age of 29 and is buried at Ridgeway Cemetery in Ridgeway Township, Michigan.[5]
