Dean Hawthorn Hiltz was born on March 20, 1919 in The Forties, New Ross, Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia, Canada to Rufus St. Clair Hiltz and Emily Legge. ^{[1] [2] [3]}

On November 30, 1929 Dean and his sister Goldie May fell through the ice of Sand Lake in Fraxville, and drowned while on their way home from getting eggs at their grandparents house on the other side of the lake. Dean was buried in St. Augustine of Hippo, The Forties, New Ross. ^{[4] [5]}
