John James Hill was born on 29 Feb 1864 in Carluke, Lanarkshire, Scotland to James Arthur Hill and Ann Watt. They immigrated as a family to America in 1864. John married Jennie Viola Adams on 3 Dec 1891 in Struthers, Ohio. Children: Grace Anna, Margaret Elizabeth, James Arrel Smith, George Arthur, Jean Marye, Ruth Edna, John Henry Sr., Ina Florence, Walter Raymond, Paul Robert, Helen Louise. He died on 27 Apr 1920 in Poland, Mahoning, Ohio.

John James Hill, was born in Carluke, Scotland in 1864 and immigrated with his parents, James and Annie, and his three sisters only three weeks after his birth. John attended school in Struthers until age 11. Due to family circumstances, he had to become a wage earner, and became a water boy & tool man for the railroad company. He earned $1.00 per day, and worked at this job for over 2 years. He worked on the Stewart Farm for one summer, and then returned to school for one year. At age 18, he was hired by American Sheet Steel Works, formerly the Summers Brothers Co., where he earned $1.65 a day. He remained at this company as a roller for many years.'
