“Alvin J. Hewlett Sr., 87, of 755 E. Market St., died Thursday, April 14, 2005, at Geisinger Medical Center.
“He was born Nov. 9, 1917, in Berwick, the son of the late Charles E. and Alice M. Hewlett. On Sept. 12, 1942, he married the former June E. McAllister, who survives. They were married for 62 years.
“Mr. Hewlett served in the Army-Air Force 890th Chemical Company in Guam during World War II.
“He retired from Kennedy Van-Saun, Danville, where he was employed as a chief inspector.
“Mr. Hewlett was a member of the Washington Fire Company, Danville.
“He enjoyed gardening and hunting.
“Surviving, in additon to his wife, are one son and daughter-in-law, Alvin J. "Jim" Jr. and Donna L. Hewlett of Northumberland; one grandson, A. James Hewlett; one granddaughter, Jodi L. Hewlett; and three great-grandchildren, Justine, Jared and Jayden.
“He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Joelle K. Hewlett in 1992; three sisters; and four brothers.
“Visitors may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 by Pastor Steven Froelke of Victory Baptist Church, Shamokin Dam.
“Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville.
“Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, Montour Unit, 1948 E. Third St., Williamsport, PA 17701 or to the American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231-4596.”
