Biography
“Mae VanPelt, 77, formerly of 1736 Franklin St., Berwick, died Friday at 3:36 a.m. in the Berwick Hospital shortly after being admitted.
“She had resided in Rancho Cucamonga, Ca., for the past five years and became ill while visiting Berwick at the home of her granddaughter, Karen Force.
“Born in Summerhill, Jan. 28, 1908, she was the daughter of the late Charles E. and Alice M. Curtis Hewlett and resided in Berwick most of her life. She was employed at the former Baer Silk Mill, Berwick, for 15 years.
“Mrs. Van Pelt was a member of the Berwick Assemby of God Church. She was married to the late William D. Van Pelt who died Feb. 3, 1980. She is survived by one son, Shane Van Pelt of Rancho Cucamonga, Ca., two brothers, Felbert Hewlitt, Berwick, and Alvin Hewlitt, Danville; a sister, Margaret Krebs, Berwick; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A son Robert VanPelt died in 1970.
“Preceding her in death were a sister, Gertrude Messersmith and two brothers, William and David Hewlitt.
“Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Mayo Funeral Home with the Rev. William Eaves, pastor emeritus of the Berwick Assembly of God Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Elan Memorial Park, Lime Ridge.”
