In the 1930 US census, David Herzenstein (15) was living in San Mateo, California, with parents Morris Herzenstein (60) and Kate Herzenstein (37), and siblings Evelyn (17) and Annabelle (7) and aunt Pauline Warner (24).^[3]

In the 1940 US census, David W Herzenstein (25) was living in San Mateo, California, with parents Morris Herzenstein (71) and Katherine Herzenstein (47), and siblings Evelyn C Haas (27) and Ann R Haas (16).^[4] (Note that he is listed as David W Haas in some transcriptions, because his sister listed is listed above him on the record with her married name Haas.)
