Hello Charles,

Thanks for creating the pre-1700 profile Matthias Hensken (abt.1658-aft.1701) and Anna Coenen (abt.1658-aft.1702).

Please provide at least a birth or death location estimate rather than leaving both locations blank. This helps disambiguate people since we have a global tree, locations help distinguish one profile of the same name from another. Even an estimate such as a continent, e.g., Europe or North America, is better than blank. Please read more here. Please explain the rationale for your estimate in a = = Research Notes = = section.

In the case of Matthias, you could use the location of his last child's birth as an estimate for his death country and explain that in the research notes. You could also use the marriage location as a country to estimate his birth location.

Hi Charles,

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.

1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?

We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities

Kind regards,

Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project

Hi Jan,

Yes, I am willing to help. I still have a regular day job so my amount of time I can spend is limited as I am also still busy with transferring/updating my own genealogical data in the wikitree. Most of my ancestors are from the south of Limburg and the predominantly German border region (although Belgium border region plays also a role). If there are projects or activities related to that region I would like to help. Other than that the occaissonal odd job (translation, profile updates or anything else that is needed by the DRP). If I get a request and am not able to deliver due to time constraints or otherwise I will let it know. In short count me in for some tasks.

To give some insights what my current personal objectives and projects are/will be. 1. One name project on my surname (Hensgens) 2. One place project on Kerkrade (so far a very high percentage of my ancestors are from that city). Planned to have the French republican census as a nice starting point as the pivot point between Civil registration and Church records. 3. Make as much genealogical connections between my DNA matches as possible

Kind Regards, Charles

Hi Charles,

Thank you very much for your speedy and positive reply. Currently we are composing a list with areas of interest indicated by the respondents. From you reaction I gather I can put you on the list with Limburg, Kerkrade, German/Belgian border areas as focus. When we have the reactions of all respondents we will get back to all with more specific possible activities. And, like all work on WikiTree, without obligations or deadlines in those activities,=.

Thank again, have a nice day!

Hi Charles

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working with members of the projects which coordinate them is essential. Please be sure to read and understand the info on this help page: Pre-1700_Profiles.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask in our G2G forum

Take care and have fun

Karen ~ WikiTree Greeter

Hi Virginia,

Thank you for inquiring. I am slowly transferring my genealogy information into the wikitree. I have to admit that I did not actually read the new member how-to. I post questions to the G2G forum as most issues are with policy and convention, and sometimes specific for region (Netherlands, German, Belgian border area).

Kind Regards, Charles

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi, Charles!

Welcome to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

It is best to start with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration. Have a look at our Sources page it is also helpful.

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

For those using Chrome, Opera, or Firefox browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles that have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

See you in the branches.
