Vaughnie Louise Hemken was born on 28 Oct 1913 in Walshville, Montgomery Co., Illinois as the fourth child of George Hemken Hemken-19 and Mary Alice Kitchen Kitchen-752. She had five siblings, namely: Elsie Marie, Charles Leslie, Opal Mary, Mervin Lee, and William Maynard.
When she was 16, she married Leonard L. Compton Compton-1677, son of James Wesley Compton and Maude Elizabeth Neal, on 30 Oct 1929 in Hillsboro, Montgomery Co., Illinois. They had five children.
