A year after grandpa died grandma moved into an apartment for a short time and then moved in with her daughter Alice. She moved in with her son Richard and his wife, Mitzy after 1983. In 1992 or 1993 she moved to Arizona to live with other daughter Lucille and her husband Morris.
Kathy Glefke (Pattyn) - Jun 3, 2001 Grandma was a little stern at times and loved for everyone to study and be smart. She was a nurse and I think we all wanted to be one too. We used to wear her nurses cap around sometimes. I remember having oatmeal for breakfast and homemade soup at her house a lot. Maybe that's why I like soup so much today. Mom made a lot of soup too. Grandma would swat us with a hairbrush if we misbehaved (which wasn't too often). She used to sew things all the time. She had an old sewing machine that had a foot board that you had to rock back and forth to make it run. I remember playing with it sometimes. She always liked to watch the news and was so intelligent about worldly things. She used to tell us things that were going on in the world. At the time I don't think we were always very interested in listening, but sometimes it was pretty cool. She always used to tell mom to get our hair cut. But when we were older we wanted it longer. When I was older I would go visit Grandma at Aunt Alice's house on the lake. We had some great times sharing stories and talking about what was going on in the world. She was really such a smart lady and I treasure the times we had together. I don't know if she was a very happy woman but she didn't talk a lot about things that happened in the past. Mostly she talked about the future and always wanted to know what I thought about things. She was a special lady and I loved her a lot. She always thought I should be a writer because I wrote so well - as though I was talking to you while I was writing. I put a lot of feeling in my letters. I think she sensed that. I miss talking with her.
