Hiram was age 14 in 1850 and resided with his parents in Wayne County, Virginia. ^[1]

Hiram Hazlett (age 22, born Cabell County, VA, son of S. & S. Ward) married Margaret Jane Ward (age 18, born Cabell County, VA, dau of H & M Ward) on 29 May 1856 in Wayne County, West Virginia. W. J. Smith performed the marriage ceremony.^[2] In the 1860 census the young couple resided next door to Hiram's parents (Peter and Sarah Hazlett) in Wayne County, Virginia. Hiram was age 23, a farmer and his wife Margarett J. was age 20. They had one child, Robert, age 2.^[3]

Hiram Hazlett, age 28, born Virginia, a farmer and married, registered for the military draft during the Civil War in Wayne County, Virginia in December 1863.^[4]

Hiram's surname was mis-spelled "Hasel" in the 1880 census for Ceredo, Wayne County, West Virginia. His occupation was described as "works on farm". ^[5]

Hiram Hazelett filed 28 January 1896 for a pension for service in the Civil War in Fuller's Company, West Virginia Scouts.^[6]

The 1900 census shows Hiram was working as a common laborer. He and his family were living at Ceredo, West Virginia. A description of the Ceredo District where they resided was provided on the 1900 census: Ceredo district (pt) including Ceredo Village including Kenova Village, all of district bounded as follows; beginning on the Ohio River at the mouth of Twelve Pole; thence up said river to the forks of the road near the mouth of Buffalo Creek; thence west with the public road, leading thereon, to Dock's Creek, following said public road to the point where it intersects Big Sandy River near the mouth of Dock's Creek; thence down said Big Sandy River to its mouth at the Ohio River; thence up the Ohio River to the place of beginning^[7]

Thus far no death record for Hiram has been found. He died sometime after 1900.
