Biography

From: BCT29@aol.com Date: Wed, 7 Nov 2001

It is commonly believed and accepted by most PAULEY family researchers that this Andrew Polly is the son of Edward Polly and Mary Agnes Mullins. That however, is unproven in my research or any other that I have seen.
There was also an Andrew Polly in Hancock County, Indiana, in the 1840, 1850 and 1860 Census records, along with Alfred, Edward, Henry and Joseph Polly. In 1860 Andrew, a farmer, was 60 years old, and his wife Mary was 59, both born in Virginia. This is his 2nd wife.

(pauley@iquest.net writes: This Andrew and Phoebe moved into Indiana, Hancock County in 1832. There were several families that came with him. I think they were awarded some and for being a veteran in war of 1812. I have a document that implies this theory. Incidentally, The TV Jane Pauley is descended from Andrew.) ~~ 7 FEB 1812 Kanawha Co, WV Marriage Record 1794-1826 p. 14

Andrew Polly & Phebe Haslet on John Lee list for 1812: no individual date

"Kanawha Co Marriages" by Julia Wintz lists the above marriage along with other Hayzletts/Haslet: It is assumed they are siblings as all live in same neighborhood and marry within same decade.

John Hazelett and Anna Beck, Jun 1 1802
James Blake and Patsey Haslet, Apr 23, 1805;
Samuel Priestly to Isabella Haslet-1810 by Rev. John Lee;
Andrew Polly to Phebe Haslet in 1812 by John Lee;
James Hazlett and Mahala Duncan, Jan 1, 1819;

It appears that Phebe and Andrew were very close to Phebe's sister, Isabella and her husband Samuel Priestly, and lived close together. Samuel PRIESTLY and ANDREW PAULEY appear together in numerous Kanawha Co records.

Kanawha Co Personal Property Tax Records (I've only gotten to 1815) 1812- John Hazlett; James Hazlett; James Blake, Andrew Pauley (No Samuel Priestly who was away at war.) 1813- John Hazelip (no James-was away at war); Richard Hazelip (different district than John), James Blake, Andrew Pauley, (No Samuel Priestly) 1814- John Hazlett; James Hazelett (same district), James Blake, (No Andrew Pauley), Samuel Priestly 1815- John Hazlett; James Hazlett (same district), James Blake, (No Andrew Pauley), Samuel Priestly

1830: Sameul Priestly, Andrew and Joseph Pauley appraise Daniel Smith Estate (Kanawha Co. Will Bk1:107)

Between 1830 and 1835 Andrew and Phebe Pauley had moved their family first to Henry Co, IN then to Hancock Co, IN, along with other neighbors and extended family members from the Coal River region of Kanawha Co, VA/WV-- including several Hayzlett nephews, the Barretts, Samples, Lamays, and Hugharts. Andrew Pauley is listed as Justice of the Peace in Hancock Co.

Because Phebe is listed in Deed Records on Jan 26, 1838 but not on March 8, 1838, it is assumed she died during this period sometime in Feb. Andrew would remarry several times after her death. Death date of 10 Nov 1839 is listed in LDS Ancestral File, no documentation and seems unlikely.
