Sara Patton Note: Patsey is listed in marriage record. In 18th century, Patsy is well-known nickname for Martha not Patricia. "Jane" may have come from listing of "Jane" as wife in James's estate. This may be a 2nd wife rather than Martha Jane.
Marriage date disagrees with "Kanawha Co Marriages" by Julia Wintz p. 7 which lists the marriage as "James Blake and Patsey Haslet, Apr 23, 1805" Kanawha Co, VA/WV Marriage Records 1794-1826 (microfilm of handwritten original) p. 6 List of Wm Williams "James Blake & Patsy Haslet April 2_" Can't see if date is 2 or twenty something as page is torn. Julia Wintz in published Kanawha Co, WV Marriages lists date as April 23. She may have access to paper documents prior to microfilming.
There are a number of Hayzletts/Hazletts--all living in same general area of Kanawha Co, VA/WV and all marrying within same decade but no evidence for the parents. Because Hayzlett is an uncommon surname, it is assumed that these are siblings. They are listed below, based on marriage dates. Birth dates are often based on marriage dates minus 20. This family group is a composite of those listed in Ancestral Files on the LDS site which claims that John, Martha (Patsy), Reuben, Isabella, Phebe and James Hayzlett are the children of James Hayzlett/Hazlett b. 1758 d. 1833 - all born in Greenbrier Co, VA/WV. The Ancestral files give no evidence or documentation for this claim. What's more, there is NO record of this man in any Greenbrier or Kanawha, VA/WV PPT, deed, marriage or probate records or in Augusta or Rockbridge Co, VA where other Haysletts are found. I have often wondered if it wasn't one of the early Rockbridge Haysletts--Robert, Thomas, or Andrew. Especially now that I've found Hayzlett spouses --Priestly, Moore, Billups, and Beach families-- in both Rockbridge and Coal River area of Kanawha Co.
A younger James Hayzlett (b. 1789-91), husband of Mahala, appears in 1819 Kanawha Co marriage records, PPTs and the 1830 census records. He also d. 1833 (how coincidental--it's same death year as older "James") with a will and estate records. James also appears in 1812 (b. bef 1791) and later Kanawha Co Personal Property Tax records. His War of 1812 pension record shows him born in Rockbridge Co.
Nor have I found a Reuben Hayzlett in any records in Greenbrier or Kanawha until several generations later.
Hayzlett "Siblings":
"Kanawha Co Marriages" by Julia Wintz lists the a following:
James Blake listed in 1810 Kanawha Co census age 26-45, with 3 boys under 10; 1 girl 10-16; another woman 16-26. Other Blakes in Kanawha Co in 1810 are Beverley, George, and John as heads of households.
