Communication Preferences: I am interested in communicating private message with anyone who shares the same ancestors. My family tree is on another website.
My Grandfather, Clio Cleta Hayes 1886-1953, changed our name from Hays to Hayes about 1920. I have no idea why he added the e. He buried his father, Richard Firmen Hays, as Hayes when all his life was Hays. He buried one uncle, William James Hays, as Hayes. Cleta had four sons, Richard DeWayne Hayes, Paul Goodwin Hayes, Lewis Robert Hayes, and youngest, my Father, Donald Gene Hayes.

Our Family is believed to be originally Scottish. We believe our name was Hay. That is my quest, to find our Irish and Scottish ancestors.

Hi Tim,

I stopped by to see if you had the DNA posting (you do, thanks to Michele), and I saw your query about taking the family name back to Scotland or Ireland. At some point, you might want to consider joining the Scotland Project. They might be able to help. There are no requirements - it's just a group of WikiTreers with a similar interest. Here's the link: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:Scotland.

 :)
