Biography

Marcus was born in 1825. He was the son of John Harvin and Rebecca Naomi Nowell. He married three times. First, he married Bedorah Berry in 1858, her second husband. In the 1860 census [1] he is living in the Clarendon District, South Carolina with his wife Bedorah, her children by her first husband Wesley (age 9) and Hortintia (age 6) and his son James (age 3). Second he married Charlotte Geddings in 1869. In the 1870 census [2] he is living in Clarendon County, South Carolina with his second wife Charlotte, his sister Elizabeth Wilder, his step children by his first wife Bedorah and her first husband Friendly Weeks; Wesley and Hortintia Josephine, his son with Bedorah James, and his children with Charolotte; Elizabeth Pauline "Panlin" and Olin Dannerly "Oliver D." And finally, he married Marie Gayle in 1875. In the 1880 census [3] Marcus is living with Marie, his third wife, and three sons: Olin, by his first wife Bedorah (age 16), Robert "Lee," by his second wife Charlotte (age 8), and John H. by Marie (age 3).

Marcus passed away in 1895 and is buried with his second wife Charlotte in Calvary Baptist Cemetery, Clarendon County, South Carolina. [4]
