I have put a lot of trees and branches of folk with the name Hartwell out there - don't assume that they all link up - the records available pre-1800 get patchy .

Biography

I'm a Hartwell who didn't really know his Hartwell father as his parents separated at age 2. I started trying to find my Hartwell roots in Bedfordshire, England... and then it sort of grew.

So I've been about 20 years cataloguing lots of people bearing the surname Hartwell , and similar, as well as some of my mother's family.

So if you find an American , Danish , Australian , Kiwi Hartwell that I have logged away here on Wikitree the chances are that we aren't direct relatives.

You'll find me in real life in Cornwall , although my roots are in Northampton.

Here is an article in French that mentions the cemetery in Compton, Quebec where my Jonathan and Rufus Hartwell ancestors are buried. They migrated from the Republic of Indian Stream in New Hampshire https://echodecompton.ca/chroniques/mon-carnet-comptonois/indian-stream/

Hi Neil, I came across Alfred Hartwell while working my way through the Norfolk unsourced profiles. I don't think he fits in that family. His birth registration has a mother's maiden name of Mercer; and there is a consistent set of census records for him with parents Joseph and Emma, and links to Great Yarmouth (where he died) and Gorleston, Suffolk. If you have no objections I'll detach him and get him properly situated.

Cheers, Chris

Actually, you already have him as Hartwell-2717, so I'll leave it to you deal with. I've put some detail on his profile as hidden text.

Hi Neil,

Thanks for your email. You are correct the names you mention are my father's parents. I have quite a few names to add to my tree, but have been too busy this past week to breathe. Thanks again, Brenda
