Biography

John Alvin Hartley was born in September 1919 ^[1] at Poplar Branch, North Carolina. He was the 7th child and son of Arthur Jackson Hartley and Patsey Estelle (Davis) Hartley

He married three times:
Married First (1) Alma Hughes Gard, 1 Jul 1939 at Suffolk, Virginia. ^[2] They divorced before 1940 ^[3]

Was born on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, in Poplar Branch Township, grew up there, later moved to Norfolk, Virginia:

In 1939 was a Truck Driver. ^[2] and in 1940 was working as a fisherman ^[3] At his death occupation was a "Self Employed Huckster." ^[1]

He passed away in 1970 age 50, at Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, Virginia. ^[1] He is buried at Woodland Memorial Gardens, Norfolk ^[9]
