Biography

Joshua Harlan, born on 15 Nov., 1696, In the Province of Pennsylvania, now in Centreville, New Castle Co. Delaware; son of George Harlan and Elizabeth Duck; died between June and July, 1744, Kennet Township, Chester Co., Pa; and was buried there in Friends Burying Grounds, at the "Old" Kennet Meeting House.[1]

Joshua Harlan married Mary Heald, March of 1719 by ceremony of Friends, at the "Old" Kennet Meeting House (then called Newark), b. Feb-15-1697; daughter of Samuel Heald, yeoman and Mary Bancroft, both born in England,[1]

  1. Caleb, "must have died early in manhood. He is mentioned in his fathers will but nothing more could be found of him"[2]

Joshua and Mary (Heald) Harlan, settled on 200 acres of land on Brandywine Creek, given him by his father, on the 9th of the first month, 1713.[2]referenced as contained within y Manor of Staneing on y South side of Brandywine Creek in y County of Chester, as in & by said Letters of Atty.

His will made June 18, 1744, and probated July 13, 1744; witnessed by William Cooper, William Webb Jr., and Wm. Passmore.[2]
