Walter's origins are currently unknown, but it has been said he was born in Scotland^[1], and in Springfield, Massachusetts, without sources or proof.

There is an entry regarding Walter Halladay in the book "The Wheeler family of Rutland, Mass. and some of their ancestors". The author of the book spoke with a descendent of Walter and it was claimed that the family had Scottish routes and claims lineage to Sir John Halladay and the Scottish Warrior William Wallace, However there is no source for this information other than family legends.^[1]
