Biography

Richard Haffield was born about 1581 according to Robert Charles Anderson's The Great Migration. His arrived in the colonies with his second wife Martha and five daughters (Marie, Sara, Martha, Rachel and Ruth) in 1635 aboard The Planter and first resided in Ipswich. Hotten lists his occupation in England as "carrier."

He married first Judith Watson 4 Feb 1610/11 at Sudbury, Suffolk.[1] She was buried 20 Jul 1624.[1]

Mary - no baptismal record found

Sarah - bap 13 Sep 1618 at St Gregory, Sudbury, Suffolk[2]

Unnamed Son - stillborn buried 27 Aug 1622[1]

Second Marriage and Children with Martha Manfeyld

He married second Martha Manfeyld 13 Jan 1624/25 at Sudbury, Suffolk.[1] Late in life Martha was declared incompetent and her affairs overseen by son-in-law Thomas White and her death record is dated 22 Dec 1667.

Martha bp 20 Nov 1625[1] - no burial record found but it appears the first daughter named Martha did not survive

Martha bp 14 Oct 1627[1]

Rachell bap 13 Sep 1629[1]

Ruth - bp record not yet located but a documented child

Haffield-5 and Haffield-3 appear to represent the same person because: Ruth Haffield White and Rachel Haffield Clinton were both daughters of Richard and Martha.
