Biography

Florence (Gulliver) Bartram is a part of US Black heritage.

Florence was born about 1857 in Indiana. She was the daughter of William Gulliver and Mary McCoy.

Florence married James H Smith (abt.1843-aft.1910) in Marion County, Indiana in 1876. Florence was a music teacher and homemaker and james was a dentist. James died in 1910 in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Florence and James's daughter Florence Beatrice (Smith) Price (1887-1953) was an acclaimed composer and musician.

Florence was married for a second time in 1925 to John A Bartram. They were married in Columbiana County, Ohio. According to the 1930 U.S. Census, Florence was a dressmaker and John was a florist. The couple identified as White on the 1930 and 1940 U.S. Census records.

She passed away about 1948. She is buried at the Achor Valley Cemetery, Achor, Ohio.
