Biography

I was born in Texas, USA, son of a Texan and a German from Berlin. As a young boy I moved to Germany where I grew up.
I'm married to a Swabian with Bohemian (nowdays Czech Replublik) roots.
I am a descendant of Nicolaus von Handjery, a German nobleman, famous enough to have a street in Berlin named after him and a page in Wikipedia.
I am also a descendant of the the Glasenapps, German aristocrats with Baltic roots. Their history zig zags with the history of Europe and the territorial changes over the centuries.
My great-grandfather Richard Schramm came from an area that was then a part of the Deutsche Reich and now is a part of Poland.
My grandmother married Ernst Wüstling, his last name translates to "fornicator".
My history and that of the ancestors of my wife is soaked with the side-effects of World War I and II. My roots and especially those of my children are spread all over the western hemisphere.
We have a tradtion of passing names. My middle name is my father's name, Delmer.
I am the founder of the QA Navigation GmbH. 2019 my wife teamed up with me, since then she holds half the shares.

Hobo Life

I lived like a hobo.

I was born in Lake Jackson.
My mother took us (me & my sister) 1968 with her to Germany. We spent the first few months in Bad Neustadt/Saale.
Then we moved to Huttenheim, which is now a part of Phillipsburg.
1971 we moved to Ludwigshafen/Rhein. I moved house three times in Ludwigshafen.
From 1986 to 1990 I studied in Worms.
For a brief span I lodged in Sindelfingen and in Stuttgart.
1990 I moved to Leinfelden-Echterdingen.
1994 I moved to Böblingen. 1997 Sabine came to Böblingen and we moved house.
2001 we moved to München. We moved house in Munich one more time.
Beeing a freelancer I had apartments in the cities where I worked and lived during the week:
2006 in Süßen
2007 in Den Haag (Netherlands)
2008 in Nürnberg
2009 in Darmstadt
2010 Nürnberg again

After working for 3 years in Nürnberg, 2013 we moved to Nürnberg, where I live to date (2021). After 5 years I continued my hobo life:

2018 - 2019 in Dortmund
2019 in Dortmund and in Oslo

Then I worked again in Nürnberg. When Covid-19 made us all stay at home, I worked for (up till now) almost a year exclusively from home. Luckily, my profession allows that.

Hi Ronnie,

I'm just following up on my earlier message on your profile regarding the Prussian Settlement Project.

Could you let me know if you are still interested in working on Prussian Settlement in Australia? If so, I'll join you up to the Australia Project as well. Thanks for all your wonderful work on WikiTree for Australia.

Kind Regards, Margaret Haining, Membership Coordinator.

Hi Ronnie,

I am currently doing check-ins for the Australia project, and noticed that you have been contributing to the Prussian Settlement project, but are not a member of the Australia Project. Are you still interested in working on Prussian Settlement in Australia? If so, I'll join you up to the Australia Project as well. Thanks for all your wonderful work on WikiTree for Australia.

Hi Ronnie.

I'm looking at different families in South Australia who have variously recorded their surname as Schulz or Schultz. (for example Johann Schulz). In German records, which is the older form? I'm assuming that Schulz is older and the 't' has been added during migration to give a harder sound. Is this a silly idea?

Hi Ronnie. Thank you for the informative additions to the Surnames page.

The last paragraph is also applicable to variations of surnames in England. Regards, Steve.

Hi Ronnie, I've been having problems typing umlauts myself. I locked the Surnames page while I check through the codes. Thanks, Steve

Hi Ronnie, Thanks very much for tidying up the Surnames. It is very helpful to have assistance from someone who speaks German. I do have a few more small questions.

Is Haese definitely a transcription of Häse or is there another possibility?

Schultz looks like a variation of Schulz, but is Schultz a common name in German?

I've seen one migrant listed with different surnames: Wundke, Wundtke, Windke. Are any of these common surnames or variations of something else?

Thanks again, Steve.

Hi Ronnie. Can you help me with German Surnames? I am compiling a list of name variations for the 'Prussian Settlement in Australia - German Australians' project. The list is on: Surnames.

Can you look the names in this list and check that order is 'Natural German' -'Most common transcription', 'other variations'. Please advise if my request is not clear. Thanks, Steve Thomas.

Hi Ronnie. Thanks for the offer of help with German language. Much appreciated. May I add your name to our team list on our project page so we all know how to find you? [1]

Ronnie, do you speak any Czech or other languages? Would you check out our languages template and add it to your biography? For example you might add

{{ Languages | en | cs-3 }}

to the top of your biography if you speak English natively and advanced Czech, or you could use de-4 to specify near-native German or ru-1 for basic Russian, etc. It really helps to know who speaks all the different languages used on WikiTree!

Karen

p.s. I need to add the Czech categories and user templates this morning, so feel free to add the template even though it will look broken until I add the categories. And let me know if another language is missing!
