Biography

Jabez, a son of Nathan Greene, Sr. (1731-) and Huldah Bowen (1729-1800), Jabez Green was born in Coventry, Rhode Island, in 1762.[1] His siblings included:

Jabez Greene fought for a number of years during the American Revolution,[2][3][4][5][6] later drawing a pension. He lived for a time in Lanesborough, Massachusetts,[7] and married Abigail Wilcox (1761-1851), the daughter of Nathaniel Wilcox and Abigail Hubbard. They married in Coventry, Rhode Island on October 7, 1784,[7] having eleven known children together:

  3. Sarah Greene (1788-1812)
  4. Huldah Greene (1791-1857)
  5. Esther Greene (1793-1793)
  6. Archibald Harper Greene (1794-1887)
  7. Laura Matilda Greene (1796-1836)
  8. Abner Greene (1798-1892)
  9. Jerusha Greene (1800-1861)
  10. Nathan Greene (1804-1874)
  11. John Wesley Greene (1805-1872)

Sometime after 1798, they made their home in Scipio, New York, in Cayuga County.[8] He passed away there at the age of 41.[citation needed] There is a cenotap for him, possibly his burial site, at Pine Hill Cemetery in Rush, New York, where his children, Abner, Jerusha, and Nathan Greene, is buried.[9]
