Biography

Peter Greene born 4 Feb 1654, died 12 August 1723. He married16 Dec 1680 Pawtucket, Providence, RI Elizabeth Arnold. [1][2]

The will of Peter Green of Warwick was dated 16 May 1718 and proved on 2 September 1723 in Warwick, Rhode Island.[3][4] It names:

  • wife Elizabeth Green
  • six sons Peter, John, Stephen, Willm. Elisha, and Barlo Green. Peter Jr. was left land that came to Peter Sr. from his uncle Thomas Green and father Maj. John Green
  • daughter Sarah Arnold
  • enslaved black girl named Raney
  • unnamed grandchildren
  • enslaved black woman Hager and her children, unnamed
  • Executors were his sons Peter, John, Stephen, and William.

His inventory was taken on 29 August 1723.[3]

Notes from full text of the will: Wife Elizabeth has been unwell for many years; son Peter to have the homestead farm and the lot in Warwick called Rockey Farme which was bought from Uncle Thomas Greene, and twenty acres given to testator by his Hon father Major John Greene. To daughter Sarah the negro girl named Raney. Names his six son to share in land in the east ward of the island...He asks that a bible be given to each grandchild. He left money for his negro woman Hagor and her children. Names most of the sons as exes. Witnesses Thomas Stafford, Samuel Green, John Wickes. Proved 2 Sep Sep 1723. Inventory (full detail listing includes the already named female negros, others are male named James, a boy named Jannot, two girls Ginne and Hannah) 29 August 1723. Recorded 14 Sep by John Wickes, Clerk, Town Council. [5]
