Aurelius Gilbert (Gib) Gray was born 18 December 1854 in Independence County, Arkansas. He was the son of Elisha Gray and Ann Meacham.
As a young man and when not in school, Gib spent most of his time working his father's land. He received his education in Independence and Sharp counties and attended Mountain Home College.
On March 14, 1878, he married Harriet Ella Albright Albright-2133, the daughter of Rev. Alvis Albright-2818 and Mary A. Stockard Stockard-45. Harriet was born in Independence County February 27, 1858.[1]
In the 1880 census Aurelius (age 25), Farmer, was the married head of household in Jefferson Township, Independence, Arkansas, United States, with his wife Harriet E. age 22 and daughter Bertha, age 1.[2]
In the 1900 census Aurelius (age 46) was the married head of household in Barren Township, Independence, Arkansas, United States, listed with[3]
Aurelius Gilbert was also known as AG and he was a farmer who owned his farm, free and clear. Sons Justin and Albert were farm laborers and Bertha was an enumerator the for the census bureau - she was the one who took this information. Everyone in the family could read and write.
Gib Gray was a prominent merchant and farmer and was permitted to practice law in Justice courts. He served his county in the state legislature, both in the house and senate, for sixteen years, at different periods. He was a friend to those in need of friendship and was at all times ready to help his fellowman less fortunate than himself. Like his father, Elisha Columbus Gray, he was a member of the Agricultural Wheel, withdrawing for a like reason. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, in which he held the office of senior warden for about three years.
He was Methodist in faith and Harriet was a Presbyterian - both were deeply concerned in all good works, being especially interested in the churches and schools.

Aurelius (age 76) died in 1931 and was buried in Hickory Valley Cemetary, Independence, Arkansas, United States.[6]
