Hi there, Ida!

You've already been welcomed to the Appalachia project, quite ably, by Karen, so let me just chime in that I'm delighted you've joined the South Central team. When you have the chance, please add your South Central Appalachia interests next to your name on our South Central Team page.

So glad to have you!

Hello, Ida,

Welcome to the Appalachia Project - North Central Appalachia Team! When you have the chance, please add your North Central Appalachia interests next to your name on this page.  Also, please review our Reliable (and Unreliable) Sources for the Appalachia Project [1] to help with sourcing our Profiles as you add or come across them.  WikiTree requires valid sources on all Profiles and our Project has certain requirements for sources.  Check the Appalachia Stickers Page for tips on adding stickers to profiles. I am always available for any questions or help.  Thanks for joining the team. Karen, North Central Team Lead - Appalachia Project

As far as North Central Appalachia, I am mostly interested in Jackson County, Ohio and all the surrounding counties and almost all of West Virginia. Right now I am researching Greenbriar, Kanawha, Gilmer, Lewis, Mason, Monongalia, Monroe and Ohio counties in West Virginia.

I have lots of family in Lewis and Gilmer Counties, so we should cross paths in the future.  :-)

My families in Lewis and Gilmer Counties include Arnold, Bush, Eller, Hagle, and Heckert. Do any of those surnames sound familiar?
posted by Ida (Gray) Houston
My Dad's Bush/Goff line is how you and I are related. I recognize the other surnames but don't but don't think they are in my direct lines.

Welcome to WikiTree and DNA.

My name is John Kingman. I am a Coordinator with the WikiTree DNA Project.

Since you have started following a DNA tag, you may be interested in how you can use DNA test matches with your relatives to strengthen your genealogy on WikiTree. You will find the answers in the Help pages, of which the DNA Help category page shows all the DNA help that is available, and the How to Get Started with DNA page is highlighted. Also the DNA Features page can show you various ways that DNA tests can work with your genealogy.

You may see some relatives show up in your list of "DNA Connections" on your profile if they have added a DNA test to their profile. These DNA Connections are possible DNA test matches, they are not sufficient for marking parental relationships as "confirmed with DNA" without providing a DNA Confirmation source citation providing details of an acceptable DNA match.

When you are ready to start documenting that your genealogy sources are confirmed by DNA test matches, be sure to follow the guidance at the DNA Confirmation help page. Also, I strongly recommend using the DNA Confirmation Citation Maker, for creating and/or validating your DNA confirmation source citations. Note that a profile should not be marked "confirmed with DNA" without source citations for both genealogy and relevant DNA test matches.

If you have questions or need assistance, feel free to ask on the G2G Forum using the Tag "DNA" and/or "DNA_Confirmation".

Happy hunting!

Thank you, John! I have added DNA to my tree, but I'm looking at the links you sent and it gives a lot more information that I didn't know about. I really appreciate the help!

Hi I.!

Thanks for joining us! I hope you're enjoying our site and our community. I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Has the New Member How To Pages been helpful or has it left you with questions?

It's great to have you on board. Enjoy your time here, and good luck growing your branches. If you need help just click on my name and you will be transferred to my profile where you can post a message or send me a private message.

Cheryl ~ WikiTree Messenger

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.

Hi Cheryl!

I have to admit that I am a little overwhelmed and have not had time to "get on board." I'd been on WikiTree before and left because of the same problem. I told myself this time to only join 1 family surname - I had to go and choose a family name that is very popular. LOL! I work 2 jobs, so I have little time to work on WikiTree. I am hoping with the latest guidelines in my area for the Coronavirus that I will have more time to pick away at what I don't know or understand about WikiTree. I uploaded a Gedcom, but it does not show as my family tree, so that is my first priority, I guess.

Thank you! Ida

Welcome back I

I am pleased to confirm and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together.

I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Happy tree climbing

Karen ~ WikiTree Greeter

P.S. If links do not work in an email from WikiTree, try them from the comment section on your profile page.

Thank you so much! I've been away for awhile because I was, and still am, overwhelmed by WikiTree. I appreciate the link for New Members. I will definitely check that out!
