Tamar Gray, daughter of Joseph Gray (1732 - 1796) and Mary Sarah (Thomas) Gray (1735 - 1801), was born in 1768 in Amenia, Dutchess, New York.[1]
Tamar married 1st, Ben Ames in about 1804.

Tamar died in 1840 in Union City, Erie, Pennsylvania, United States aged ~72.[1]
Tamar Gray (AMES) came to Erie county as a widow with her 5 children from NY. She had a brother Jeduthan Gray who moved to Erie County, Oil Creek in 1821 or 1822 and bought land of William Miles. Jemima Thompson, first wife of Abel Thompson died in 1816 and about 5 or 6 years later when Tamar AMES moved to Pennsylvania from NY, Abel fell in love with Tamar at first sight. They married and took formal possession of the old Thompson homestead. Abel's son Caleb who had moved his family to the farm to live with his father when Jemima died built a new house for his family when his father married Tamar.
