Biography

The son of Rev. W. Pipes Jones and Eugenia Brookfield Jones, William (Bill) was born on February 23, 1938, in Winona, Miss., where his father was rector of the Episcopal Church. When he was a toddler, he and the family moved briefly to Memphis, Tenn., and then to Lake City, Florida, and to Palatka, Florida, where he started school and graduated from high school.

Following high school, he went to the University of Mississippi, where he met Kay Mounger, whom he married on July 1, 1961. He had become employed by the Social Security Administration immediately after graduation from the university and worked for them for 35 years. During those years he worked and lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., Florence, S.C., Cookeville, Tenn., Columbia, Tenn., and then in Lewis Co., Tenn., where he and Kay operated a bed and breakfast for 14 years.

On retirement from the B&B, they moved to Winchester, VA, to be nearer to their children in Washington, DC and Alexandria, VA.

He died in Winchester, VA, on May 2, 2018, of a hemorrhage following surgery to remove a brain tumor.
