Biography

Mary was born about 1878. She was the daughter of John Gracey and Ellen Hurley. She passed away in 1957.^[1] She is buried in the Dalby Monumental Cemetery, Queensland.^[2]

In 1905, Mary married John Hale.^[3]

Hurley family reunion book 1989

In a booklet prepared for a Hurley family reunion on 12 Nov 1989 the following comments appeared.

Mary Gracey as a young girl went up to live with her aunt and uncle McLouglin at their hotel in Yulebah. She worked in the hotel and helped her Aunt Margaret with the children. She met and married a young Irishman, Jack Hale. They built a butcher shop at Kaimkillenbun. Mary and Jack provided all their family with a good education.

The children of the Hales were: Patrick 18/1 /01, died aged eight years; John Francis (Frank) 21 /9/06; Gordon (Ron) 25/7/10; Robert (Bob) 29/4/12; Aloysius (Roy) 13/8/13; Michael Kevin 13/4/14; Catherine (Kit) 30/4/15; Mary Agatha (Pat).^[4]

Research Notes

Mary's birth register record cannot be located. She is stated to be 79 years of age on her headstone, her birth year is based on this rather than the biographical note on Find A Grave or other unsourced birth years.
