This person is probably not Jane Bunker, widow of George Bunker. That person appears to be George's second wife.

Biography

Elizabeth's parents are not known; therefore, her date of birth is unknown. There was an Elizabeth, daughter of John Godfrey, baptized 5 Aug 1627 in Toddington, Bedford, England. And there was an Elizabeth, daughter of Thomas & Elizabeth (Mead) Godfrey, baptized March 6, 1631 in Cardington, Bedford, England. Toddington is only a couple miles from Tingrith where her husband was born . . .

Elizabeth married George Bunker on May 5, 1644 at Malden Parish in Bedfordshire England.

At the time of George's death in 1658 in Massachusetts, his will named his widow "Jane Bunker". There is no record of any marriage between George Bunker and "Jane" either in England or America nor documentation of Elizabeth's death. It is unknown if "Elizabeth" and "Jane" are the same woman, or if Elizabeth died and George remarried.

It is presumed that "Elizabeth" was the mother of George's first two children, born in England:

1. Elizabeth Bunker; born 1646 in Tingrith, Bedfordshire, England; married Thomas Look on Nantucket Island.
2. William Bunker; baptized June 17, 1648 in Tingrith, Bedfordshire, England; married Mary Macy on April 11, 1669 on Nantucket Island in Massachusetts; died 26th 7mo 1712 in Nantucket, Massachusetts; will dated June 22, 1712 and probated August 5, 1712. Raised sheep on Nantucket.

She may or may not have been the mother of George's three children born in America:

3. Mary Bunker, born 5 mo 1652 in Topsfield, Essex, Massachusetts; married Stephen Coffin October 8, 1668 in Nantucket; died May 18, 1724 in Nantucket; will probated July 10, 1724
4. Ann Bunker; born about 1654 in Topsfield; married Joseph Coleman (son of Thomas & Susanna Coleman) in 1672
5. Martha Bunker; born November 1, 1656 in Topsfield; married Stephen Hussey October 8, 1676 in Nantucket; died 21st 9 mo 1744 in Nantucket

The death date of 31 Dec 1662 belongs to Jane and is not Elizabeth's information unless Elizabeth and Jane are the same person.

  • Page 8: "Among others who came... William Bunker, 1650-1712, carried to Nantucket by his mother, Jane Godfrey, whose first husband, George, was drowned, 1658, when she married Richard Swaine, married, 1669, Mary, daughter of Thomas Macy..."

It has been pointed out that the above record from 1886 incorrectly mixed up George's first and second wives.

What is the source for the marriage date for Elizabeth and George? Is there a parish record? If so, please post the link.
If this profile represents the mother of Elizabeth Bunker who married Thomas Look, then she (this profile) married second Richard Swaine. Mmm. But see Richard Swain's profile. It names his second wife (and widow of George Bunker) as Jane...

Ugh... unless Elizabeth Bunker Look was a step daughter also to Jane... my head hurts...

I can confirm thru an exact FMS match of mtDNA between descendants, that Elizabeth Bunker born 1646 and Martha Bunker born 1656 had the same mother. That means George had only 2 years between Martha's birth and his own death to marry a 2nd wife.
