John Montgomery Glover was an American lawyer, politician and soldier. Glover was Brevet Brigadier General in the Union Army during the Civil War. After the War, Glover was a member of the United States House of Representatives.

John was born on September 4, 1822, in Harrodsburg, Kentucky. He was the son of Colonel John Glover and Frances (Taylor) Glover. [1]
In 1836, the Glover family moved to Knox County, Missouri. Glover studied law and was admitted to the Missouri Bar. He practiced law in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1850, Glover moved to California and practiced law there. In 1855, Glover returned to Missouri to attend to family matters. [2]
From September 4, 1861, to February 23, 1864, John Glover served as Colonel in command of the 3rd Regiment, Missouri Cavalry. On February 23, 1864, Colonel Glover resigned due to health problems. [3][4]
From December 1, 1866, to March 3, 1867, Glover served as Collector of Internal Revenue for the 3rd District of Missouri. [4] Glover was elected as a member of the House of Representatives to the 44th and 45th Congresses. In the 45th Congress, Glover served as chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Department of the Treasury. He was unsuccessful in getting re-elected in 1878. [2]
John Glover passed away in 1891. He was buried on his farm near Newark, Missouri. [3] Glover's remains were later reinterred in Woodland Cemetery, Quincy, Illinois. [1]
He was the uncle of Congressman John Milton Glover.
