William appears to be the son of William Gilliam and a Miss Harris, daughter of Edward Harris. William, as heir, receives a portion of Edward's estate.
As William Gilliam's orphan, William was granted a lot of Land in the 1827 Georgia Land Lottery.

About 1843 he married Lucinda Aveline Fambrough. Her maiden name from is known from the death record of her son, Frank D. Gilliam, from the Bailey Funeral Home, Palestine, Texas. It is also confirmed by Fambrough Family Society. although without proof.
