Biography

Savannah Gilliam was born in July, 1850 in Deer Creek Twp., Carroll County, Indiana. She was the daughter of Allen W Gillam and Mary Ann (Thomas) Gillam. She was the 2nd child of 4 children. As a baby, one month old, she was in her parent’s home along with her sister Matilda age 1 in August, 1850.[1] Her father died when she was 5 years Old. At age 10, she was in her mother's home in 1860, along with her siblings.[2]

She married Albert L Akers (1845-1940) on December 7, 1870 in Carroll County, Indiana, at the age of 20.[3] They had 3 children.

  • Ruth G Akers (1871-1921)[4] m. Perry E Goslee.
  • Charlotte “Lottie” J Akers (1876-1930)
  • Guy B. Akers (1877-1973)

They made their home in Deer Creek Twp., Cass County, Indiana in 1880, where Albert was a Farmer, and she kept the home and was raising the children, Ruth-7, Guy-3 and Lottie-1. [5] by 1900 they were living in Monroe, Carroll county, Indiana, where Albert was a Day Laborer, and whe was taking care of the home. Their daughter Ruth-27, was a Millaner. son Guy-23 was working as a Clerk, and daughter Lottie- 21, was helping with the home.[6]

She died some time before 1910.

Her husband Albert was on a 1910 Census as Widowed.
