Biography

Martha was born in 1845. She was the daughter of Jeremiah Gillam and Sarah Wood. ^[1] The family the story says she married a man named Rigsby sometime after 1880. In 1888 she became pregnant and Mr. Rigsby died. There is no record of an Alabama marriage license between her and Mr. Rigsby so no first name is available. In October of 1889 she married Sanford Hayes. ^[2]. Sanford's first wife Rebecca had died the year before leaving him with several children still at home. So widower and widow married. Martha died in 1928.^[3]
