Edward Alfred William Gillam was born in Cranbrook GSR, Western Australia on 13 May 1916.^[1] He was the son of Edward Thomas and Louisa Sounness.

Edward enlisted on 7 November 1939 in Subiaco, Western Australia and was attached to the 2/2 Field Company where he had the rank of Sapper.

Edward married Dorothy Elaine Marshall in 1948 in Albany, Western Australia.^[2]

Edward died on 12 October 1976 in Hollywood, Western Australia.^[3] He was buried in the Roman Catholic section at Karrakatta Cemetary, Karrakatta, Western Australia. ^[4]
