Evaline “Evva” Pearl (Gibbs) Shonio was born Thursday September 3, 1914 in Waverly, Franklin, New York.[1]She was the daughter of Rev. John Charles Gibbs Sr. and Lottie Pearl (Green) Barrett. She shares the same birthday as her sister Myrtle Mae Gibbs. She passed away Monday October 7, 1991 in Morristown, Lamoille County, Vermont. Beginning in 1915 Evva is living in Waverly, Franklin, New York with her parents at her grandparents home of Ell & Georgiana Gibbs. In 1920 Evva is 5 years old & living in Waverly, Franklin, New York with her parents and two siblings Bernarr MacFadden Gibbs & John Gibbs Jr. Evva at the age of 6 arrived in Ontario, Canada on December 27, 1920 with her parents. In 1930 Evva at the age of 15 is living in Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont with her parents & siblings. Evva marries Guy Lewis Shonio December 19, 1930 in Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont at the age of 16. In 1940 Evva is living in Stowe, Lamoille, Vermont with her husband & six children, Judy, Raymond, Peter, Harold, Sally, & Martin. She is 25 years old, working as a buffer at Fork & Spoon Company & her husband Guy Shonio is age 29, working as a saw leader at Novelty Mill. Stowe/Morrisville-Evva Gibbs Shonio, 77, died Monday, Oct 7, 1991 in a Morrisville nursing home. She was born Sept 3, 1914, the daughter of John C. and Lottie (Green Barrett) Gibbs. Evva’s Family moved to Vermont in the early 1920’s, where she attended schools until marrying Guy Shonio, who predeceased her in 1982. She helped him farm during the Depression and had six children. In June 1938 she started to work at Stoware. Her 5 1/2 days a week there continued for 14 years. In 1955, Evva’s home was opened to skiers and 18 winters were spent housing them on Lower Main Street. They enjoyed the summers in their camper, starting in the 1960’s. She and Guy moved to Waterbury Center In 1974, when she finally retired and took a little time to do crossword puzzles and spend a few winters in Florida. She lost her eldest son, Raymond, in 1967, and is survived by her son, Harold and his wife, Pat of Morrisville, a daughter, Sally, and her husband, Dana, of Stowe; a son, Marten and his wife Barb, of Stowe, a daughter, Judy Demeritt and her husband, David, of Stowe, a son, Peter and his wife Barb of Milton, a daughter-in-law, Janice Shonio of Torrington, Calif., 20 grandchildren and their 12 spouses; 22 great-grandchildren, five of her nine brothers and their spouses; four of her five sisters and their spouses, and by many, many nieces and nephews. There will be no visiting hours. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct 10, at 2pm in Stowe Community Church, with the Rev. Bruce Comiskey officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association of America. Executive Park East, P.O. Box 3607, Albany, N.Y. 12203, R. W. Stafford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.[2]
