I am a huge fan of genetic genealogy and find it extremely helpful. I am excited to see how much it grows in the future.
Currently working on: Sprucing up some old profiles in my tree.
About me
I was born in Wisconsin, United States. I was introduced to genealogy in 2017, when I had to do a genealogy project at school. Thanks to my family for keeping records, I was able to build off it and started to look online. I enjoyed learning where my family came from and kept researching afterwards. I stumbled across WikiTree shortly after.
Gerarden Name
The surname Gerarden has its origin in Wisconsin. Joseph Girardin had at two sons who changed their surnames from Girardin to Gerarden. The sons, Augustin and Moses, had migrated from Quebec and eventually found their way to Wisconsin.
Some descendants of Joachim Girard began to spell their names as Girardin and later some evolved into surnames such as Gerard, Gerarden, Jeardoe, and Durard. The origin of Girard is French; derived from the Germanic personal names Gerard which translates to spear brave or from Gerald which translates to spear rule.[1] Gerarden is a rare surname. In 2014, Gerarden only had 128 incidences in the United States. The highest Density of the surname was in Wisconsin, followed by Washington and California and few living in 11 other states.[2]

We're so happy to see you are still active on WikiTree and caring about the Dutch profiles. The Dutch Roots Project is looking forward to give the project a new fresh start to put the Dutch in a more prominent place on the WikiTree map. The project is currently managing over 50,000 profiles and the total number of Dutch profiles on WikiTree exceeds 500,000! Within the project we are monitoring the quality of the Dutch profiles and assisting other WikiTreers in producing those profiles. We would love to pick up some other tasks but to do so we need more volunteers. This is why we check in with the members of the DRP to see if you would like to help us expand.
1) Would you like to do some volunteer work for the Dutch Roots Project? 2) If yes, what kind of work would you prefer to do within the Dutch Roots Project? E.g. translating, sourcing, or something else you want to work on?
We hope for a positive reaction but please don't feel obliged to volunteer. We just want to have a group of persons we can ask to help us with certain activities
Kind regards,
Jan, on behalf of the Dutch Roots Project
I'll be quite busy for a couple years but when I can, about once or twice a month, I'd love to work on Dutch immigrant profiles to Wisconsin on Wikitree and maybe expand their tree a bit! I can also add sources/spruce up other existing Dutch profiles. I am most familiar with the Noord-Brabant province so I would probably focus on that area.
We recently introduced provincial teams to get expertise and activities on that level focused. If you like we can add you to the Noord-Brabant team, but again: no strings attached.
The 6th Source-a-Thon will take place from the 1st of October till the 4th of October. This Thon is all about adding accurate sources to unsourced profiles and improving the accuracy of WikiTree. Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!
Because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants, working within the projects which coordinate them is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.
Use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find one which best fits your research focus, whether time period, location, or special event. Read the goals and tasks of the project and join if it is a good fit.
Let me know if you have trouble finding projects which fit your focus. Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page.
