Maria Gennusa is a Corleone native resident, the daughter of Bernardo Gennusa and Antonina Mangiameli, who married in 1797. She is named after her paternal grandmother.
Maria marries Gioachino Riina, son of Salvatore Riina and Maria Liggio, and widower of Lucia Marino, on 13 February 1825. Her parents have died by this time.[1]
Gioachino and Maria have at least four children: Bernardo (c. 1825), Antonino (1828), Lucia (c. 1830), and Leoluca (c. 1842).
Bernardo is born around 1825, based on his reported age in the 1834 census.
Antonino is born and baptized on 29 October 1828. This record calls his mother Maria di Miceli. His godparents are Giuseppe and Lucia di Carlo, brother and sister, both unmarried.[2]
Lucia is born around 1830-31, based on her reported ages in the 1834 census, and at the birth of one of her children.[3]
In the 1834 stato delle anime, Gioachino Riina, 44 (b. 1790), heads a household with his wife, Maria, 33 (b. 1801), and children Salvatore, 25 (b. 1809), Felice, 22 (b. 1812), Maria, 18 (b. 1816), Biagia, 16 (b. 1818), Francesco, 14 (b. 1820), Bernardo, 9 (b. 1825), Antonino, 6 (b. 1828), and Lucia, 4 (b. 1830), near the strada di Pennino.[4]
Lucia marries at least twice, first to Francesco Leggio, on 17 September 1848.[5]
Lucia remarries, to Vincenzo di Carlo, on 17 February 1851[6]
Antonino marries at least twice, first to Salvatrice Paternostro, on 15 February 1852.[7] He remarries to Calogera di Carlo on 18 June 1854.[8]
Bernardo marries Grazia Macaluso on 4 February 1855. His parents are both still living.[9]
Leoluca marries Calogera Gennaro on 16 February 1862. Gioachino has died by this time.[10]
