Biography

Michelangelo Gennaro, son of Lorenzo Gennaro and the late Leoluchina Panepinto, is baptized on 8 June 1856 in Corleone. His godparents are Placido Bonanno and Caterina Cascio, a married couple.[1] A Find A Grave profile for Michael Angelo Genaro gives the same names for his parents.[2]

He marries twice, first to Giuseppa Pomilla, daughter of Biagio Pomilla and Caterina Rao, on 26 September 1881.[3]

On the Trimveria, arriving in New Orleans in 1893:

Note: Michelangelo is a capo in the Mafia in Dallas in the 1900-30s. Michelangelo's younger cousin of the same name is the boss of Corleone’s Mafia from 1920-1924.

Michelangelo and Giuseppa have at least five children: Leoluchina (1882), Lorenzo (1884), Josie (1885), Biagio (1887), Francesco/John (1889), Charlie (1890), and Biagia (1899).

Leoluchina is baptized on 15 July 1882 in Corleone. Her godfather is the unmarried Antonio Puccio, son of Giuseppe (potentially this one).[5] She is named after her paternal grandmother.

Lorenzo is born on 27 June 1884 in Corleone and is baptized the next day. His godparents are Giuseppe Lisotta and his wife, Anna Cutrone.[6]

Josie is born May 1885 in Italy.

Biagio is born 22 January 1887 and baptized two days later, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Calogero Russo and Rosa Coniglio, a married couple.[7]

Francesco is born on 16 November 1889 in Corleone and is baptized the next day. His godparents are Leoluca Finocchio and his wife, Carmela Rao.[8] Carmela is Francesco's first cousin once removed; she is his mother Giuseppa's first cousin.

Charlie is born in August 1890 in Italy.

According to the 1900 census, the whole family emigrates in 1892.


Biagia is born 21 June 1899 and baptized four days later. Her godparents are Leoluca Cutrera and Maria Comparetto, a married couple.[9] Leoluca is is Michelangelo's first cousin. Leoluca's father is Corleone mafia boss, Salvatore Cutrera.

In the 1900 federal census of Brazos, Texas, taken 2 June, Michelangelo Gennaro, age 45, born June 1854, heads a household. He is a widower. He lives with his children Josie, 15, born May 1885; Lawrence, 13, born June 1886; Charlie, 10, born Aug 1890, and John, 8, born November 1892. They were all born in Italy and immigrated in 1892. Michelangelo is a farmer, and Lawrence and Charlie are listed as farm laborers. [10]

John marries Mary Anna Cortimiglia, who was born in Texas.[11]

The Gennaro family resettles in Dallas by 1904.[11]

Michael remarries at an unknown date to Tommasa “Bessie” Lamonte.[2] They have at least one child, Josephine (1904).

Josephine is born 10 August 1904 in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., Texas to Michelangelo Gennaro and Tomasa Bessie Lamonte. Corrections made by affidavit of Angelina Lamonte on 27 May 1966 in Dallas. She lives at 10545 Lennox Ln, Dallas, at this time, and Angelina Lamonte, requesting the changes, is Josephine’s aunt.[12]

In the 1900-30s, Michael and his sons Lawrence and John are active in the Dallas Mafia. Michael is a capo and his sons are soldiers.[13]

In 1912, the three men co-found the Texas Produce Company.[11]

Lorenzo dies in 1932.[13]

Michael dies 10 October 1933 in Dallas, Texas. He last lived at 3803 Gilbert Av. According to the biography on his Find A Grave memorial page, Michael was in the wholesale produce business for 20 years. He is the son of Lawrence Genaro and Laura Pinto, both of Italy. Informant is Mrs. Rocco Coniglio. He is buried in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas.[2]

In 1954, returning from a vacation in Mexico with his wife, John dies of a heart attack in Corpus Christi.[11]
