On January 7th, 1749 Johann Martin Geisinger signed up as soldier at the Dutch East India Company (Verenigde Oostindische Compagnie, the VOC) in Delft. He left from Delft with the ship "Overschie" heading towards Batavia. This ship reached the Cape on August 18th, 1749.[1][2][3][4][5]
In 1752 Johann Martin became citizen of Cape Town.[1]
Johann Martin married on August 6th, 1752 in Cape Town, reformed parish to Maria Magdalena.[6] The couple had one son:
At the same day his son Johannes Daniel Martinus was baptized, Johann Martin was godfather for Anna Maria Hunder.[8]
Between March 23rd and November 2nd, 1755 his wife Maria Magdalena passed away. Johann Martin immediately married a second time on November 2nd, 1755 in Cape Town to Christina Maria Maartens.[9][10]
Johann Martin passed away on September 28th, 1762.[11][1][5]
Research Notes
Birth Date:
No record with an age is found so far. Possible dates are prior 1730 (if born in 1730, he would have been 19 when signing up with the VOC). A possible baptism could be (speculation!): Joes Martinus Geissinger born 1729 in Weinheim as son of Henricus Geisinger and Anna Maria.[12] See also Geisinger (Geissinger, Geißinger) in Weinheim for the family surrounding. FINAL PROOF IS MISSING! Supporting this theory is:
In Weinheim/Baden many Geissinger families exist (other than in the other below discussed places, which can be identified as a place "Weinheim).
In Weinheim/Baden also Mack families exist, so the later arriving Philip Jacob Mack could also be from that place.
Seconday Sources: "Weijnheim"[9], "Weinheim"[2][3], "Gau-Weinheim"[4](Note: there is no source for this interpretation of "Weinheim", the given source in that record ([5]) explicitly states that it is not clear which Weinheim the man came from.
Possible "Weinheim":
Weinheim (Bergstrasse) = Weinheim, Weinheim, Mannheim, Baden[13][14] : became 1806 part of Baden : this was the "largest" Weinheim in the region
Weinheim (Kr. Alzey) = Weinheim, Alzey, Rheinhess., Hessen[13][15] : became 1815/1816 part of Hessen : no "Geisinger" or similar name in the online available family books (starting 1691 for reformed parish)[16]
Gau-Weinheim = Gau-Weinheim, Oppenheim, Rheinhess., Hessen[13][17] : became 1815/1816 part of Hessen
Frei-Weinheim = Frei Weinheim, Bingen, Rheinhess., Hessen[13][18] : became 1815/1816 part of Hessen
Weinsheim = Weinsheim, Kreuznach, Coblenz, Rheinland, Preussen[13][19] : became 1815 part of Preussen
Weinsheim = Weinsheim, Worms, Rheinhess., Hessen[13][20] : became 1815 part of Hessen
Migration:
Original migration records have not be found.
Children:
There is a second child: Maria[21] Any further information on her ? Which wife is the mother ?

Contact with Joes Kaldenbach and research done by him in the Archive in Bunnik. There is also a daughter Maria mentioned.[21] There is no testament in Bunnik. There is no further detail on which "Weinheim" Johann Martin came from. Thank you to Joes Kaldenbach.
