Hermann was born in 1892 as son of ("Seifensieder") Franz Heinrich Gassenschmidt and his wife Emma née Brehm.
Before World War 1 he was a teacher ("Gewerbelehrer").
He died as consequence of shell splinters in his back in the afternoon of 5 March 1915 near Souchez, France.
