Biography

Giovanni was born in Sambuca around 1830 ^[1], a son of Domenico Gagliano, a farmer, and Antonina Grisasi ^[2]. In 1856 at age 25, he married 22-year-old Anna Barbera ^[3] of Santa Margherita di Belice. They seem to have remained in her town, as they had a child born there and Anna died there in 1879. In 1881 at age 51, Giovanni married the 35-year-old widow Angela Scaturro ^[4].

Giovanni died prior to October 1914 ^[5].

At the time of his first marriage, Giovanni was a peasant farmer. His 1881 marriage record describes him as middle class.
