Biography

Rosario Gagliano is born 22 November 1877 in Corleone and baptized the next day. He is the son of Giovanni (Joanne) Gagliano and Antonia Oliveri. He is named after his paternal grandfather.

Rosario's godparents are Vincenzo and Lucia Oliveri, brother and sister. Lucia is the wife of Luciano Gagliano, who is Rosario's paternal uncle. Lucia and Vincenzo are Rosario's maternal aunt and uncle.^[1]

At least 53 passengers from Corleone sail on the SS Citta’ di Napoli, and arrive 20 October 1902 in Ellis Island. All are going on to the port of New Orleans. Among them are:

7. Rosario Gagliano, 25 (b. 1877), single, going to NOLA, joining his brother Calogero Gagliano in Lake Charles, LA.

8. Salvatrice Gagliano, 21 (b. 1881), single, going to NOLA, same as above; she is Rosario’s sister^[2] They are first cousins of the NYC gangster Tommy Gagliano.

Another brother, Tommaso, emigrates to Houston, TX in 1913.
