Caterina Gabriele is born in Palermo, the daughter of Maestro Francesco Gabriele and Cira Criscione, a couple from Corleone who married there in 1848. I estimate Caterina is born the following year, making her sixteen at marriage. Caterina lives in Corleone from childhood.
She marries Maestro Biagio Mondello, son of the late Maestro Nicolo’ Mondello and the living Lucia Mosca, on 8 February 1864 in Corleone. Third and fourth degree consanguinity is detected and a dispensation obtained on 28 January 1864 for this union.[1]
Caterina and Biagio have at least two children, Leoluca (c. 1873) and Michelangelo/Michele (1877).
Leoluca is born around 1873 in Corleone, based on his reported age at marriage.
Michaelangelo is born 29 September 1877 in Corleone and baptized the next day. His godparents are Francesco Cusimano and Angela Rossello, a married couple.[2]
Michele, a fifteen year old barber, migrates to New York City in 1892.[3]
Leoluca marries Caterina Liggio, who is also from Corleone, on 19 January 1898 in Manhattan. [4]
