Biography

Lucia Fratello is born and baptized 8 December 1873 in Corleone. She is the daughter of Vincenzo Fratello and Castrenza Ligotino. Her godparents are Francesco Paolo Ala and Placida Profita, a married couple.

Lucia is named after her paternal grandmother and shares her name with two older sisters, including a twin born in 1862, and another girl born the year before her. Both die in infancy.

Lucia's father, Vincenzo, dies at 62 years of age (b. 1824) on 3 December 1886.

Castrenza remarries to a widower, Francesco La Francesca in 1888.

Lucia marries Giovanni Paternostro, son of the late Calogero Paternostro and the living Vincenza Pecoraro, on 27 January 1894. Her father has died by this time, and her mother is living.^[1][2]

On 10 August 1895 in Corleone, Giovanni Paternostro, age 24 (b. 1871), contadino, reports the birth on 9 August of a baby to his wife Lucia Fratello, contadina, in their home in via Pozzobuono in Corleone. The baby is a boy and is named Calogero. Witnesses Giuseppe Timpa, age 54 (b. 1841), and Girolamo D’Antoni, age 44 (b. 1851), contadini. The father cannot read or write.^[3]
