Note: This does not appear to be the son of Jane Cadwalader, who was married to Evan Robert Lewis. Evan & Jane's children emigrated from Wales to Pennsylvania as a group and are not associated with Oxfordshire. Disconnecting Jane as Thomas Evans wife, she should probably also be disconnected as this William's mother. Andrea Powell 7/17/2016

From the research done, it looks like the wife of Thomas and mother of William is more likely "Catherine" Lee-5956 7/18/16 (this matches information in the original GEDCOM bio as well -AP)

Biography

William was a Friend (Quaker)
He attended Banbury Monthly Meeting, Oxfordshire

"William Evans, "Sr. or Elder" was born about 1622 in Wales. He was being persecuted by King Charles II as being a Nonconformist (Quaker, Society of Friends). He moved to Oxfordshire, England and worked there as a carpenter, probably to join the growing supportive Quaker community there. The great Quaker leader George Fox also made many sermons in the area. He was a member of the Banbury Society of Friends Meeting House. He married the lovely Jane Hodges at a Banbury Society of Friends Meeting ceremony in October 1663. They had three children; William, Jr. Thomas and Agnes (not certain about Agnes?) They emigrated from Downs, England and sailed on the ship "Amity" in April 1682 and settled in Evesham Township, West New Jersey. William Evans “the Sr. or Elder” stated in his will; “William Evans being sick of body yet in perfect memory at this present time do make this my Last will concerning disposal of my outward Estate as followed first I make order and appoint my Son Thomas Evans to be my wholly and Sole executor (1688).” Children were;

1. Thomas Evans (1664-1692) born in Oxfordshire, England, married to Sarah Hackney, daughter of Thomas Hackney of Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey. They had a daughter named Sarah.

2. William Evans “the Jr. or the Younger” (1668-1728) born in Leicestershire, England and married Elizabeth Hanks of Deryshire, England in a Quaker ceremony in Darby MM, Pennsylvania in 1693.[1]

3. Agnes Evens

Note: Sources show a Will with a child named Agnes mentioned."

Evans-37498 and Evans-7100 appear to represent the same person because: These two were born at the same place and time, both married to a Jane Hodges but with different death dates.

That will need to be sorted out. Wife and son of each should probably be merged also.

This profile is apparently married on the same day to two women of the same name but with different birth dates and locations. Can someone sort this out?

Hello cousin! I am an Evans as well from Ohio, William is my 9th GG. I have done a lot of research on Evan ap Robert Lewis and he did not have a son named William he only had 5 children: ALICE VERCH EVAN, CADWALADER AP EVAN, John ap Evan, Evan ap Evan, Owen ap Evan, and Griffith ap Evan and that family settled in Pennsylvania as a group because they came here together, our William's family all settled in NJ so there was obviously two different Evans families who came here around the same time. Another site says our Evans came here on the ship called the Kent not the Amity but there are so many places where I think people are lumping the two families together I'm not sure which is right. So knowing that William isn't one of Evan's son's I am trying to see if I can find out who his actual parents were, it says he was born in Wales and then moved to Oxfordshire before immigrating here to New Jersey with his wife and two children William and Thomas. If anyone has any information about who William's actual parents are maybe we can get this all straightened out. I'm wondering if maybe they came from the same family in England but I have seen enough to know William is not his son and they went to two separate states where their lines carried on from there, but oddly they both have the same back story that they moved here from England due to religious persecution. Here are two sites I found that give more information: https://findinghenryballinger.wordpress.com/category/william-evans-progenitor/ and https://www.friendsjournal.org/legacy/abington/gwynedd/evans.htm I have not been able to find any documents on who Williams parents are.

Hello cousin, you are correct about people confused about the 2 Evans families in Evesham New Jersey in the late 1600 and early 1700's. Our Thomas Evans married Elizabeth Hanks and the Gwynedd, Pennsylvania, Thomas Evans married Sarah Dunn. I do have William coming to America on the Amity, but do believe he landed in Virginia before coming to New Jersey . Thank you for your input. .https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/115989877/william-evans

Evans-21741 and Evans-7100 do not represent the same person because: There are no children named Joseph, Jacob or Issac, these need to be deleted from the profile.

Evans-21741 and Evans-7100 do not represent the same person because: The only similarity between these two profiles are the names of relations and the recorded marriage date to Jean Hodges Evans. The dates and many of the locations for all of the individuals vary enough to indicate they are probably not the same persons. If sources are found to resolve the differences, this could be readdressed.
Karen...I approved the merge with the exception of Jacob and Isaac Evans, whom were not children of William Evans, Sr.

Thanks.

Quakers Project...this looks to be a duplicate of (Evans-7100), except that my 8th gg grandfather William Evans had three (3) children; Thomas Evans, William Evans, Agnes Evans. He arrived on the ship "Amity" in 1682 and settled in West New Jersey. Thanks.
